Farmers Market Alexandria Virginia
visit My World
On Sat morn while visiting there my DIL and I went to the Farmers Market on the Square it was so bright w/ colors. The top of this sign said "WE Grow Everything we sell", so it was all so fresh!

we went to choose some fruits

choosing was hard so they let you taste

Which of the tomatoes pics below would you get?

I preferred the Beefsteak tomatoes

and which peppers?

You can get herbs

also get local crafts

and beautiful Flowers

It was a fun yummy atmosphere

I want to show you my new mirror
I saw this mirror at Kirklands and I liked it I used to have a mirror
that was 1/4 this size here and wanted a larger one so

I looked at the price .... too much for me

then it went on clearance..then 25% off that price...
I went on Thurs the first day of the 25% off and noticed

this damage and left....

I went back on Sat, the last day of the 25%off, and it was still there.
...I then noticed this damage (blurry picture) on the end as well
so I went to the manager, waited till no other customers were close by
and asked if an item is damaged? would they consider going much less? and he said ..
YES!!
so, we walked back to the mirror, he saw the price and said I think we could go 45.
and I said Oh, I was thinking more like 35 .... he saw the damage and said ok ,we can do that
(why didn't I say 25?:)

so after loosing my keys momentarily in my excitement I went to home depot to dream up a repair plan.
I took it home and looked at the colors, is that dark red or brown under that gold? and exactly what shade of Gold is that? oh, and that is green next to the nail head?

I bought these button plugs and hubby cut the base off-
I would have taken half a thumb off with the end if I had done it-- when I said that to him he did put a leather glove on (he is so smart)

Painted the green base
molded some wood puddy for the bridge between the buttons
I decided the under color was dark red. I went through every color of metallic gold acrylic paint there is and used a bit of each as the first coat over the red -but finally
this gold leafing pen worked best

I sanded and used the same paint on this end can you see it?

can you see the repair?

I cannot see it, and I am thouroughly enjoying it!!!

(except mirrors are tricky to photograph)

My World Arlington National Cemetary
My World
This was a must see on my list. I like the commemorative respect of Cemeteries and I am feel very patriotic and Arlington was both -- I was not disappointed.

From the beauty of the gates

to the haunting stark white rows of millions of people who served their country with honor-- this place spoke to my soul.

the roads were long and reminiscent of the long marches of these soldiers

miles of memorials

some famous

some with family names

this was one of the saddest

the tomb of the unknown soldier is a beautiful spot

it is guarded

the changing of the guards was so precise full of honor

We ended up walking about 5 miles total on these beautiful grounds

saw the pentagon from afar and there
was a memorial to those who were
victims of the crash there

I will take these images with me as reminders of the past and those who gave their lives

steeped in this reminder from another monument that-

but also w/ hope for the future of this great nation in which I live.
